MILITARY PAY AND FINANCES

myPay (formerly known as Employee/Member Self Service - E/MSS)....This service allows soldiers to update certain pay information by accessing the pay system via the Internet. What this means to the soldier is that the paperwork drill normally associated with simple financial issues is coming to a screeching halt. You can view and print your LES, plus you can stop the hard copy delivery of it to your unit. That means one less document with your SSN laying around. Additionally, you can start, stop and change your enrollment in the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), change direct deposit information, and change the number of exemptions claimed for tax purposes. Future updates include the ability to start, stop and change your discretionary allotments, plus process bond changes. If you do not have your pin, or if you have forgotten it and need to have it reset, then click here for information about myPay, including the form letter and the instructions for resetting your account. Follow the instructions and you will have access in about a week (or less if you fax your documents).

Defense Finance and Accounting Service...This one has good info on pay issues. It will probably answer just about any question you may have concerning pay. There is also a customer service page link for that personal touch.

Army Emergency Relief....Here's the official home page for an organization that has contributed enormously to the well being of our soldiers. AER provides emergency financial assistance in times of need to soldiers, family members, retirees, and widows and widowers. One key point......AER doesn't receive anything from the government. It is supported by voluntary contributions from soldiers (active and retired), civilians, AER loan repayments, and investment income. Even more notable is the fact that only 5 cents from every dollar is used to cover operating costs. The other 95 cents ends up as financial assistance. A great program and well worth your time to support.............

Travel Voucher Pay Information....If you've completed travel and would like an update about you documentation, then you'll want to check this out. You'll also find many other links to sites about finances and your pay.........

Military Pay....Questions about your pay? Want to know about your entitlements? How about savings bonds? If you have the question, they likely have the answer. This is actually located within the site directly above, but it deserved it's own link. Enjoy........

Consumer Protection from the Federal Trade Commission....This is a link within the FTC site, but it contains a significant amount of information on scams, identity theft, lending, travel, and more...............

Military Sentinel....This quote from their site says it best....."Military Sentinel is a project of the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Defense to identify and target consumer protection issues that affect members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. To file a consumer complaint, click on your service seal. This will link you to the consumer complaint forms. Military Sentinel also provides a gateway to consumer education materials covering a wide range of consumer protection issues, from auto leasing, to identity theft, to work-at-home scams. To view consumer education material and find out more about the Federal Trade Commission, click on the Federal Trade Commission seal. Military Sentinel allows members of the United States Armed Forces to enter consumer complaints directly into a database that is immediately accessible by over 500 law enforcement organizations throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. These law enforcement agencies use this complaint data to target cases for prosecution and other enforcement measures. The information from Military Sentinel can also be used by members of the JAG staff and others in the Department of Defense to help protect armed services members and their families from consumer protection-related problems." The bottom line is, this is a great avenue to use in reporting problems to the authorities...............

Finish Rich....We all know that financial training is something we don't get enough of...... Ask yourself the question - How many paychecks am I away from being homeless? If you lost your income this month, what would happen next month? Scary?...... It should be. The way to overcome this fear is financial planning. I don't want to recommend any particular source, since there are many organizations out there that can help. This site, however, is a great source of information and knowledge, plus there are many links available to learn about how the financial system works. Check it out. I'm sure you'll leave the site, just a bit more fiscally responsible. Enjoy.........

PER DIEM, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee...Here is an outstanding site for anyone who wants to figure out what they're entitled to during moves and reassignment. Enjoy......

Identity Theft is a serious concern and is made even more so by the proliferation of technology made available through the Internet. Check out the full article in the September issue of Soldier's Magazine. Here are three major credit-reporting agencies which will provide a credit report for a nominal fee and you can contact them to report any fraudulent use of your credit accounts: Equifax or Experian or Trans Union....They are also great if you just want to take a look at your credit history and see about your chances of getting that new loan. Enjoy.......

Increasing use of "The Army Link" has necessitated the need for me to upgrade from a "free to maintain" website, to one that now requires monthly fees to the provider. This included an upgrade of available bandwidth so that visitors to the site can continue it's use without interruption. I also reserved the domain http://www.thearmylink.com which ensures users of this site will always be able to locate it easily. The links below are to sponsors I am affiliated with in an effort to offset some of the cost. I have tried to choose those which will be of interest to visitors of this site. Rest assured, I will continue to maintain "The Army Link" for years to come. Our soldiers are always worth the time and effort!.......
